Galapagosh!

I am privileged to have visited the Galapagos Islands. 

Words cannot express the wonderful experience of seeing the unique wildlife and other natural phenomenon on these islands. In such a serene environment, the use of words is best kept to a minimum. That is why I have compiled a list of Galapagos endemic words and their definition for you to use.

If you ever visit the Galapagos, make sure you bring the list below. Using it will ensure that you can keep disturbing conversations to a minimum and enjoy the evolutionary wonders of these islands to the maximum.

GALAPAGLOSSARY

  • GALAPAGOSPEL 
    1. Devoted belief in the evolution theory; 2.Evangelism of evolution. 3. Ceremonial expression of thankfulness by people of Galapagos that is accompanied by singing praise for the natural forces that caused life on Earth to appear, particularly in their unique form on Galapagos.

  • GALAPAGOD
    Open-minded Deity, Who is willing to admit that the Evolutionary have a point.

  • GALAPAGLOVE
    Special glove used by humans when touching animals for conservation- or scientific purposes. Warning: Visitors are never to touch any wildlife they encounter on Galapagos. This privilege is reserved for research scientist, conservationists and foreign assholes who ignore their guide's warnings and instructions.

  • GALAPAS.O.S.
    Emergency cry for help from unique endemic species that are about to become extinct on Galapagos and –by definition - the planet.

  • GALAPAGHOST
    Apparition of deceased human beings, who died while visiting Galapagos.

  • GALAPAGOSH!
    Expression of amazement while observing Galapagos wildlife which resembles a family member. Example: "Galapagosh!! That marine iguana looks just like our aunt Ethel!"

     
  • GALAPAGOSTAPO
    Elite police force known for using very effective, but disputable methods for making visitors obey the rules for ensuring an ecologically responsible visit to Galapagos.

     
  • GALAPAGASHOLE
    1. Geological term; Opening in the islands´ surface on Galapagos, through which volcanic gases (i.e. Sulfur) escape. 2. Visitor who ignores the rule of not touching wildlife.
